Education officials issue advice on PE for students with disabilities

The Department of Education is offering new guidelines for schools on providing physical education to students with disabilities. The recommendations include the use of technology and video games to simulate activities for those who are unable to participate, and the use of other specialized and more accessible equipment and spaces. The guidelines are in response to a 2010 Government Accountability Office report that found a number of barriers to inclusive PE, including under-developed federal policy on the issue.
