Alaskan lawmakers consider closing special-needs funding gap

Children with the most severe disabilities each cost Anchorage's schools an estimated $75,000, but the district must pick up most of the cost since it only receives $27,000 in state funding. Lawmakers are considering a change that could increase funding for children with special needs to nearly $70,000 by 2011. Anchorage Daily News (Alaska)
