NBPTS is awarded grant based on record of success

The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards received a $1.5 million grant to improve science teaching and science education nationwide over the next three years. Beginning March 15, the money will be available to teachers in parts of California, Colorado, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Washington and Puerto Rico to help them pay fees to apply for National Board Certification. The Amgen Foundation, a biotechnology company's charity foundation, said it believes in the National Board process and research showing it improves teachers' effectiveness.
