HEAR YE!....HEAR YE!...
I think this is an interesting piece of information that I would like to impart to all of you. According to the news report:
"The Red Planet is about to be spectacular! This month and next, Earth is catching up with Mars in an encounter that will culminate in the closest approach between the two planets in recorded history. The next time Mars may come this close is in 2287. Due to the way Jupiter's gravity tugs on Mars and perturbs its orbit, astronomers can only be certain that Mars has not come this close to Earth in the Last 5,000 years, but it may be as long as 60,000 years before it happens again.
The encounter will culminate on August 27th when Mars comes to within 34,649,589 miles of Earth and will be (next to the moon) the brightest object in the night sky. It will attain! in a magnitude of -2.9 and will appear 25.11 arc seconds wide. At a modest 75-power magnification Mars will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye. Mars will be easy to spot. At the beginning of August it will rise in the east at 10p.m. and reach its azimuth at about 3 a.m.
By the end of August when the two planets are closest, Mars will rise at nightfall and reach its highest point in the sky at 12:30a.m. That'spretty convenient to see something that no human being has seen in recorded history. So, mark your calendar at the beginning of August to see Mars grow progressively brighter and brighter throughout the month. Share this with your children and grandchildren. "
NO ONE ALIVE TODAY WILL EVER SEE THIS AGAIN

Thanks for sharing this with us, Teacher Sol. I will watch out for this in the summer night skies along with my family.
ReplyDeleteYou know what? The last time you tagged me telling me you mentioned me in your last post, I clicked on you name and got a site advertising PATERNITY TESTING, of all things! I really thought your site was hacked, just like Pansitan was last December. I even tried calling you to warn you of it.
And then I realized it was because you had typed "blogspo" instead of "blogspot". Boy, did I feel sheepish. Anyway, I'm already thinking of answers to your questions. Will post them soon.
RENEE, exciting 'no? iniisip na nga namin kung saan magandang pumuwesto eh.
ReplyDeletePagkatapos ng spammer/ spoofer last time, hacker naman ngayon, wag naman sana:( sometimes I get that too sa mga tag boards eh, nakakapagtaka no? tapos after sometime naman, naaayos din. Thanks for your concern. Well surely talk later *wink*
Let me know when you're ready with your answers ha. Salamat!

ReplyDeleteALLAN, last time for me too to look at the nightsky thru a telescope was in UP, same place. It was a lunar eclipse.

ReplyDeleteHmm... maybe George Bush's dreams of putting a man on mars might get tossed up in the air once more.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info. I’m sure it will be in the papers soon. Take care!
ReplyDeletePretty amazing. Can't miss this once in a lifetime chance to be able to view Mars that close.

DRE, I can just inmagine...hahaha
ReplyDeleteSIS BOPEEP, no problem madam, cyber teacher at your service :D
EVI, Correct! According to NASA: "Whether you are viewing through a telescope, glancing through a pair of binoculars, or star-gazing outside the city, be sure to take advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, for Mars will not make another neighborly visit this close until 2287."
ReplyDeleteEVERYONE, another advice from NASA: "Although Mars will be closest on August 27, astronomers suggest viewing the planet earlier, as dust storm season is just beginning on the red planet and can obstruct a more detailed view."
This is interesting and I can't wait to see Mars in such a close distance. Swerte yung me telescope pag dumating yung moment na iyun. I would surely mark this August day and would realize that we may all be seeing the same red planet although at a different time.
ReplyDeleteMAJOR TOM, hello, Martian blogger! I know you wouldn't want to miss this thing *wink*
ReplyDeleteThanks for this info. I kinda like this kind of science stuff. This reminds me of the things ive read in the past you know, ancient people use to see this kind of phenomenon in the sky as a sign of things to come, whether of good things or of bad things.
