When diagnosing Down syndrome, obstetricians focus on negative

When informing parents-to-be that tests show their fetus to have Down syndrome, the news is often delivered with highly negative depictions of what the parents should expect if they decide to keep the baby, according to new research. The survey of nearly 3,000 parents and children found that obstetricians giving the diagnosis usually focused on the hardships and failed to describe any positive potential for people with the syndrome.
