Autism in the Movies

Jimmy is a boy who is considered mentally unstable since his sister died. In fact he is autistic. The family, mother and father are in process of divorcing, are thinking about putting him in a home. Corey, his half-brother, and Jimmy are about to be separated. They take off and head for California. En route at a bus station Corey finds Jimmy is a whiz at video games. At the same time they meet a young girl, Haley. She organizes them to go to a video game competition. All three hitch-hike and eventually get robbed so they hustle to keep on their way. The film does become unrealistic as they get away with underage gambling and getting into cars which they obviously shouldn't.
A sub-plot is their being pursued by a man (bad) hired by their mother to find them, and by their father.Jimmy's autism is really only significant in relation to his skill at games. There is none of the depth or complexity of relationships found in Rain Man (1988).
