We are a support network of DC Public Schools special educators. This listserv is an online information portal and our venue where we can meet on a consistent basis:
  1. to share our teaching strategies, experiences and reflections;
  2. to identify and discuss special education issues and concerns related to IEPs and assessments, resources and materials, compliance, inclusion, early intervention, and transition; and
  3. to make recommendations according to the best practices to help our students with special needs reach their maximum potentials.
We envision an improvement in the quality of special education programs in the DC Public Schools where all teachers working with special needs students have the support that we need to maximize our special needs students' potentials.

Hi,

My name is Jessica and I love this post! I am researching best practices for teachers with special education student (from the angle that many regular education teachers with mainstreamed special education students have little or no training in dealing with those students' disabilities) and first of all I want to thank you for the work that you do. My little brother is going through the public school system (getting mainstreamed from special ed) and there is nothing more important than good teachers.

I was wondering (as a total random stranger) if that user group has ever generated a best practices list? Or if there are any resources which are commonly used by regular education teachers who find themselves with a special education student in their class? Or if you know of some resource who I might contact for the kind of best practices list which you talk about in this post?

I visit the DC area fairly often and will be spending an extended period of time there this summer and am looking for a public school to use as a case study for my research. I know this is totally out of the blue but I was inspired by your post.

Thank you again for all of your work,

Sincerely,

Jessica Dickinson Goodman
