My Hubby Is A Happy Father

(CLICK ON THE TITLE FOR MY FATHER'S DAY SONG TO MY HUBBY)

Nothing you do for children is ever wasted. They seem not to notice us, hovering, averting our eyes, and they seldom offer thanks, but what we do for them is never wasted. - GARRISON KEILLOR

This is Maren Rae, our baby; picture taken with her daddy during our spring picnic last Mother's Day at the Smithsonian Park. She's growing up pretty, smart, and talented. Her first grade teacher just recently wrote a comment in her notebook "I'm so proud of Rae, my super student!", which made Reiner and I proud of her too. This blog (click here) is full of her artworks. She's learning to play the violin now, and she loves playing the harmonica too and her toy piano. She is the apple of our eyes, the star of our small but happy family!

I found this letter in her baby book. I was tearful while reading this. It brought back a lot of memories of our darkest days (click here). Reiner wrote this letter while I was in labor in the hospital for Rae to open when she's 16 (9 more years to go!)...

Dear Baby,

Hi! This is your dad speaking. I'm in the hospital room right now. It's already 12:06am. May 8, 1998.

I really don't know what to tell you, but one thing I'm sure about right now is that I'm worried as hell. Your mom's in labor right now with you and I'm not allowed in. Sucks, huh?

Actually, I'm writing a romance-horror story right now. But it's hard telling a story when your mind is not there. I almost forgot, the title of the story is "Nocturnal Love", kinda corny I guess.

When you read this, you'll probably already be all grown up. I wonder what you'll be like. Maybe you'll be an athlete like your Unce Affie, or maybe as smart as your mom, I don't know. But whatever you turn out to be, I promise you that I'll always be your friend.

Right now I've got a really big problem. I don't have money enough to pay for your delivery. Your mom and I are just going for it. Something might come up and save us from all this mess.

You won't believe how excited we were when we found out that you were coming out today. We had been waiting for months for you, but you're finally here. I guess eventhough I've done a lot of stupid things in my life, God still loves me, He gave me you didn't He?

Oh yeah, I almost forgot. We have another problem. We don't really know if you're going to be a boy or a girl. So to say, we haven't picked out a name for you. Actually we thought of Rhyss if you're a boy, or Raeven if you turn out to be a girl. I'm not going to tell you what I hope you're going to turn out to be.

To tell the truth, your mother and I have been working our butts off to welcome you into this world with a bang. I think we did okay. One day, I promise you, we are going to be filthy rich.

I haven't spoken to your Oma for six months now, eversince I left home. But I know she'll love you when she sees you. You're pretty lucky with your grandparents. I'm sure they'll spoil you rotten. But not if I can help it...heh, heh, heh.

So I guess I'll be seeing you soon, Weeweh. I'm going down to the labor room on the fourth floor to check on your mom. There's an alarm, I wonder what it is.

See you baby, I love you.

Always, Daddy (Reiner d' great and cool dude)

P.S. I don't know how I'll be looking when you see this letter, but as of now I'm a total hunk. I've got a really long hair tied up in a pony tail, and I weigh about 150 lbs. My guess is that I'll still be as gorgeous as ever. Even when you're fifty.

TO MY BLOGGER FRIENDS: TITO SAM, J.ANGELO, ARVIN, PUNZI, KA URO, RONALLAN, ATONG, ALLAN AMBOT, BW, JOHN REYES, MAJOR TOM, CARLOS PEREZ, JP Aclan, TITO ROLLY, .....

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY to all the great fathers in the world...especially to my PAPA.

Oh my God Sol!!!!

This made me cry as well. Just like what I wrote in my testimonial in Reiner's Friendster account, he may look like a toughie with his long hair and rocker image, but he still definitely has a soft heart. Remember men like him and my man are rare :)Guess we're the few lucky ones, huh? Happy Fathers' Day, Reiner!

We miss you guys...but guess we'll be seeing each other again soon :)

that song you asked me to listen is so cool and cute. thank you.

do you have a friendster account?

If you two were doing what you were doing now and both of you were financially set, I'd say you two qualify as literati.

Now that is special.

FLOI, if you end up with a Betan, sis I'm telling you, they have their ways of driving women crazy; patas lang, because they say we drive them crazy too...hahaha

Men oh men!

EVI, yep I have a friendster account. Invite me: marisolangala@yahoo.com , I also have a blog there pero wag mo na pag-aksayahan ng oras yun, di ko na ma-update eh mula nang nagkaroon ng Teacher Sol blog. Thanks Evi for the kind words.

I bet lagi kang hilo sa kanya. O siya ang hilo sa 'yo?

That was one heck of a letter. It was written in all sincerity I could feel its soul. Your husband is one cool dude, pony tail and all. How I wish I've thought of that. It would really be nice for my children to read when they're all grown up. Too bad I can't do that now. Writing letter to my child while my wife is in labor. hahahaha
Oh, thanks for the greeting. I say the same thing to your hubby.

holly said...

That is just adorable. I love the idea of writing a letter to your child before being born! What a wonderful gesture!

Teacher Sol said...

PATRICE, sweet nya no?

Soul mates? Hilo nga kami pareho sa isa't-isa!

Teacher Sol said...

ARVIN, bet the great father is busy! man, this day is for great men like you. enjoy it!

LWS, got you YM message. Nagkasakit nga ako, nanghihina pa ngayon kaya di pa masyado makapag blog hopping. take care!

ERUANNIE, that's just tip of the iceberk, more to come. *wink*

i hope ur feeling better.

Great Teacher Sol! Kamote ka men! Hek hek hek!

You seem to be saying that from the dictionary definition of "literati". What I meant was "literati" from the perspective of a certain group of people at Oxford, specifically the All Souls College.

The people at the all souls college are not required to conduct research or teach, all they have to do is think.

These erudite group of people would seemingly always expand upon their knowledge, gather together and use each other as outlets and just simply enjoy the pursuit of intellectual interests.

They're not exactly the greatest academics or artists, but they are just plain good at what they do.

Teacher Sol said...

NIKKI, thanks, I am feeling better pero hilo pag nagbabasa ng matagal kaya di makapag-blog hopping masyado. But I'll be ok. Take care.

DRE, ngek! Di ko alam yung tungkol sa grupo na yan ah, thanks for letting me know. Pero panggap lang kami that we're good at what we do, qualified pa rin ba kami? ...hahaha...APIR, men!

Thanks Sol. Your hubby is sure one fine and happy Dad...my happy father's day greetings to him, to all Gaerlan Dads at sa lahat ng tatay sa buong mundo.

hi there sol,

i just read what reiner wrote to rhae, that ws very nice and full of love. i wish i can write like that, but was not blessed with that talent. i can relate to what he ws going thru that day when u were having a baby. 3 yrs ago, i was in the same position whn my wife gve birth to my daughter. even though it was a very emotional day for me, i did nt show it to my family. my mom was there whn my baby came out, she ws crying, my wife bestfriend, she ws also there, she ws crying, i was about to cry but i did my best to hold it. i pretended i was going to get something in the car, people in the hallways were looking at me whn i ws walking bec i was crying like a baby. for a father, this is one of the happiest days in our lives, there is not a lot things that can top that. so reiner. happy fathers day to u and also dnt stop writing bec that is a talent that not a lot of people have.. i wish i could write.

ANJEL, ANJEL, Here's another teenage blogger friend who just set up her blog, but she's very friendly too and you can hook up with her. I wanted to lead her to your blog and to encourage her to blog, she's 2 years older than you. maybe you can teach her to blog hop Her website is: http://www.pinkpillowkattya.blogspot.com/ Still waiting for your autobiography make it short like 5 sentences, k?

TITO SAM, power to all the great dads in the world! woot! :D

As I always told my preschool students na boys noon, it's ok to cry for boys. Why do you have to hide it when it expresses you true emotions. Hay, men oh men!

JAYRED, that's just tip of the ice berg, I will blog some more later. Sure, you can link up my DIGITAL BOOK, though di ko na masyadong naa-update kasi etong blog-city parati akong binibigyan ng problema. Hopefully next week ayos na yan. Take care!

Said "literati" of the all souls college can be loosely called amateurs, because they never really specialize in one thing; they just take in whatever they want of one subject and then move on to another, irrelevant of it's relativity to the previous.

But the peculiar thing is that even though they are so good at whatever tickles their fancy (such as poetry, literature, culture and whatnot), they don't care for recognition or popularity. They just do things for the intellectual aspects of whatever they do.

Here's a strange fact that I read about the ASC... the standards are so high, that for nearly about a hundred years now, they stopped accepting applicants...

The information stopped there. I assumed that the college only sent out invitations to certain individuals then...

Enigmatic...
