AUTISM: Mother's exposure to pollutants could raise risk of autism in children

San Francisco Bay area youngsters with autism disorders are 50% more likely than non-autistic peers to be born in neighborhoods with high amounts of toxic air contaminants, California Department of Health Services researchers report. Scientists say more study is needed before they can confirm that mercury or other pollutants trigger autism. Los Angeles Times (free registration) (6/23)
