According to The Washington Post, Acting DC Public Schools Chancellor Michelle Rhee has selected a transition team to provide strategies associated with the DC Public Schools opening in August 2007. Principally, according to the Post, the focus will be on hiring principals and solving other pressing issues (financial audit of DCPS by consulting firms Alvarez & Marsal and McKinsey & Company).
Rhee, so far, has hired the following people:
Jenny Abramson (Leader of the Transition Team). Abramson, on leave from the Post where she is an advertising manager, formerly directed program strategy for a year at the organization Teach for America. Abramson has a MBA from Harvard Business School, as well as degrees from the London School of Economics and Stanford University. More about her here and here.
Kaya Henderson (DCPS Deputy Chancellor). Henderson was a Vice President for The New Teacher Project.
Jacqueline Greer (Rhee’s Executive Assistant). Greer also worked at The New Teacher Project. Greer earned a Masters of Public Policy from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government, and a Bachelor of Arts in Public Policy from the University of Chicago. More about her here and here.
According to the Post, Rhee is said to be recruiting Billy Kearney, Memphis [Tennessee] executive director of the New Leaders for New Schools, a principal training organization, to work on principal hiring.
