Special educator named Nebraska's Teacher of the Year

Special education teacher Mary Schlieder, right, is congratulated by co-worker Jan Hart Friday at Norris High School near Firth, Neb.

Mary Schlieder's work with high school students with behavior and social disorders won her the Nebraska Department of Education's 2008 Teacher of the Year award. "She inspires me. She really pushes me to do it. She explains things piece by piece," said Dylan Arthur, a 16-year-old junior with Asperger's syndrome. Omaha World-Herald (Neb.)
