Teacher of students with emotional problems receives Milken award

Educators are learning this week that they have won prestigious Milken National Educator awards. Among them is Chicago teacher Daphne Whitington, whose students have severe emotional problems and have been kicked out of regular schools. "She believed in me every single day," said recent graduate Dominique Lewis, who used drugs and was homeless, but was pushed by Whitington to stay in school. Chicago Sun-Times
