New Zealand researchers develop "virtual" teacher

An animated "virtual" teacher able to respond to children's moods may be a potential breakthrough for long-distance tutoring, according to this article. The three-dimensional image, which was designed to teach math to 8-year-olds, was created by Massey University researchers based on their observations of real teachers interacting with students.
