Charity helps people with special needs volunteer, find work

Sasha Ortiz, who has cerebral palsy, keeps busy by cleaning offices at Blanchet High School. Supervising her is Taylor Hupf, who works for Northwest's Child.

A Seattle nonprofit aims to help relieve parent caregivers by keeping people with disabilities active as volunteers or part-time workers while at the same time teaching critical job skills. "Our first goal is to provide them with a safe place to be when their guardians or parents are at work," said Darcy Hupf, director of Northwest's Child. "We want to give them a meaningful role in their community and quality of life with happiness and friendships, and doing things everyone else their age does." Seattle Post-Intelligencer
