Florida may eliminate $70 million in certification bonuses

Florida lawmakers may reconsider whether to fund a yearly program that pays 10% bonuses for teachers who earn national certification, after a Florida study failed to link such credentials with student test performance. The chairman of the Florida Senate appropriations committee that handles public school budgeting said the panel will examine the bonus program next year, adding: "I just want to make sure we're getting good results in terms of young people doing better."
