Florida special-educator raises students' expectations

Gayle Solis Zavala's ability to turn almost any experience into a teachable moment for her Florida students with developmental disabilities helped her win $2,500 as part of USA TODAY's 2007 All-USA Teacher Team. "She really pushes for (students') full potential," said Johnnie Mae Collins, whose son was Zavala's student. "With all her children, she goes above and beyond." USA TODAY
