DOCUMENTARY FEATURE PRAYING WITH LIOR
OPENS IN WASHINGTON D.C.’S
AVALON THEATRE ON MARCH 28TH!
The winner of numerous Audience Awards for Best Documentary, Praying with Lior asks whether someone with Down syndrome can be a “spiritual genius.” Directed and produced by Washington native, Ilana Trachman, the film enjoyed a record-breaking NYC premiere. And now D.C. area residents will have a chance to see what critics have been raving about! A New York Times Critic's Pick, called "a crowd-pleasing delight" by Variety, Praying with Lior provides a window into spirituality, disability, and the power of community. Many think Lior is close to God -- at least that's what his family and community believe -- though he’s also a burden, a best friend, an inspiration and an embarrassment, depending on who is asked and when. As this moving and entertaining documentary moves to its climax, Lior must pass through the gateway to manhood - his Bar Mitzvah.
Inspirational and thought-provoking, this family-friendly film will run for a limited engagement. So come to WASHINGTON’S AVALON THEATRE starting March 28th, and see what everyone is talking about!
Turnout the first weekend will increase the likelihood of an extended run!
CRITIC'S PICK! The extraordinary life of Lior Liebling ...touching! "
– JEANETTE CATSOULIS, THE NEW YORK TIMES
"There have been a number of very popular documentaries about religion in recent years, but Praying with Lior stands out as one of the most heartfelt and touching."
– ABC NEWS
"Funny and touching, brilliantly and lovingly made!"
– JEWISH WEEK
"Praying with Lior bores deep into your soul. That's a pretty good definition of a religious experience."
– BOX OFFICE MAGAZINE
"Pamper your soul and pray with Lior"
– RABBI ZALMAN SCHACHTER-SHALOMI
“A CROWD-PLEASING DELIGHT! Intimate and involving, fascinating and rather extraordinary!”
– VARIETY
“Warm-hearted and mesmerizing, made with equal parts admiration and astonishment…discards the clichés and condescension of so many religious films.”
– NY SUN
"I wish I could pray with the raw honesty of Lior Liebling"
– TIM SHRIVER, WASHINGTON POST
