Part of confidential teacher disciplinary list placed online

A Florida newspaper has placed online a searchable database of 24,500 teachers nationwide who have been disciplined -- although misconduct details are not provided. The Sarasota Herald-Tribune gained access to a partial copy of the list maintained by the National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education and Certification, from Florida's Department of Education, a NASDTEC member. The list previously had not been available to the public but because Florida officials kept a copy, it is considered a public record under Florida law. The Boston Globe/Associated Press
