Cuts to summer-school programs may hurt struggling, gifted

Remedial and enrichment summer classes are being eliminated across the country as schools seek to balance budgets in a tight economy. "Cutting these kinds of programs is incredibly shortsighted, and will cost us more in the long run than we could ever save short term," said California state Sen. Darrell Steinberg, a Democrat.
