Draft “Developmental Disabilities Reform Act” Released Community Review & Ideas Needed!
One year ago, District residents with developmental disabilities, their families and supporters took part in a series of meetings and focus groups on “New Laws, New Choices!” At these meetings, people brainstormed ideas for new legislation to modernize the District’s rights, supports and services for residents with developmental disabilities and their families.
Over the last 9 months, the Department on Disability Services, Management Advisory Committee (DDS MAC) Legislative Committee has worked to turn the community’s ideas into draft legislation. The draft bill, along with many supporting documents is now available. You can get copies in two ways:
1) Visit http://dc-ddleg.blogspot.com/
2) Contact T.J. Sutcliffe at tjsutcliffe@arcdc.net or (202) 636-2963.
Stay tuned for more information on meetings and ways to get involved!
All are welcome to participate and are encouraged to:
1) Get updates & meeting announcements by email, fax or mail by joining the DDRA distribution list! Contact tjsutcliffe@arcdc.net or (202) 636-2963.
2) Ask for a speaker on the DDRA at your group’s next meeting. The DDS MAC Legislative Committee will make every attempt to honor requests for speakers and to help your group get involved.
3) Comment! If you can’t make it to a meeting, you can post your ideas to the DDRA blog at http://dc-ddleg.blogspot.com/ or send your ideas to the DDS MAC Legislative Committee c/o tjsutcliffe@arcdc.net or (202) 636-2963.
Thank you, in advance, to everyone for your ideas, questions, and collaboration to make the District’s laws work for residents with developmental disabilities and their families!
