Education secretary: School day, year should be lengthened

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan said Tuesday that his plans for school reform include making sure students spend more time in school. "I fundamentally think that our school day is too short, our school week is too short and our school year is too short. You're competing for jobs with kids from India and China. Regardless of nationality, as soon as a student completes the eighth grade -- they have just Two Million Minutes to prepare for college and ultimately a career.
