Liz Genuino is the Pinoy Teachers Network's Fellowship and Membership Moderator. Ever wondered why you cannot reach her these past few weeks? She was on training in Virginia, and she came by to visit Washington DC after her training...
That was Wednesday, I tried to get out early from the New Teachers' Orientation, where I was one of the facilitators, to meet up with Liz. And yes, true to what I said in my feature article about this PROUD PINAY, she talks fluently in Tagalog. I was even more surprised to know that she's been in the Philippines once, when she was 3 years old.
We had so much fun going around the Smithsonian Museums which are only few blocks away from where I live. She met two other Filipina teachers who live in my apartment building, Ate Sonnette and Michelle, and we exchanged our stories about our students. We had fun, and some of the pictures will tell the story. We brought her home at 11:00pm.

i once chatted with Liz at nagulat ako to know that she grew up in the US. bakit ba ako nagulat? paano po e ang galing managalog. kakabilib talaga at kahanga-hanga din ang kanyang mga magulang to have brought her up that way. Yung iba ngang nagbabalikbayan, hindi na makausap ng matino dahil me accent at parang gustong sabihing, "Hoy, nakarating na ako sa US!"
Sol darleng, baka mas magaling pang managalog sa iyo ang ating si Liz, ha. I'm glad you guys saw each other at last. I.m sure kadaming kwentuhan.
PAO, salamat dahil di ka nakakalimot bumisita at mag-iwan ng message sa blog ko. Busy lang pero hoping na makakapagbalik loob na soon. Yep, we had so much fun strolling around, pasyal-pasyal lang kami...

NAVYBLU789 (LIZ), I got your pics from your training in Virginia, also saved the pics that I was there sa mga pasyal natin. I haven't got the chance to reply yet, but I wanted to write you a longer letter. I had a blast painting the vicinity red with you. POBS, para sa akin dapat syang tularan ng maraming Pilipino, marunong syang tumingin sa pinanggalingan. At hindi sya nanghihiram ng ibang lahi, natural pati kulay ng buhok at kulay ng balat. Natural na tao baga. Ikaw naman, tinaguriang bilingual ang mga Pilipino, ok lang mag-English, advantage nga natin yan pag nandito sa Amerika. Sana lang, pag kapwa Pilipino ang kausap natin, pwede naman tayong magsalita ng Pilipino di ba, dahil lahat tayo nakakaintindi ng wika natin.
KINGDADDYRICH, nakakatuwa na may makilala tayo na tulad ni Liz, di ba? Totoong tao at walang pagkukunwari.

BEL, you got it amiga! Nahihiya ang aking nerves sa galing nya sa Tagalog, lahat yata ng Pilipino, pati sa telepono (mommy ng BF nya) Tagalog nya kinakausap eh, narinig ko yon. Uuwi din kami dyan soon, mag eye-ball din tayo?
MARISOL, hindi pa ako nakaka-update ng blog kasi busy ako w/ setting up my classroom. Naumpisahan ko na magdraft tungkol sa East Coast visit ko diyan. So wait for it! Pero I try to comment as much as I can.
Nandito ang mga relatives ko from the Phils, New Mexico and Florida. Masaya kami dito ngayon at magkasama kaming lahat sa isang bahay.
Mga kids ng mga pinsan ko English-Tagalog sila. 3rd generation Fil-Ams & kinder age kids. Their parents strive hard to raise their kids bilingual. Nakakatuwang pakingan ang mga salita ng kids nila like, "Mommy, look at the bundok!" and "I'm gutom. I want to eat kanin." Madali silang maka-pickup ng Tagalog phrases kapag kasama nila ang mga Lolo & Lola, Tito/Tita, cousins! So cute!
Nakakatulong ang family members sa pagturo ng Tagalog sa mga bata. Reinforces language acquisition.
