"Her passion for cooking can be tasted in every bite of her delicious creations." FIRST LADY LAURA BUSH
A dream come true! I met personally and shook hands with the Filipina White House Executive Chef last Friday, October 21, 2005. I went to JW Marriott with Pinoy Teachers Network representative Michelle Ignacio in a reception in honor of Cristeta Pasia Comerford.
Around two months ago, the newspapers and blogs were talking about her during the announcement of her acceptance of the position as the head chef of the White House.
A Filipina-American, Cristeta Comerford, became the first woman executive chef at the White House, six months after First Lady Laura Bush reportedly forced out the last organiser of the president's state dinners. (TURKISH PRESS)
I didn't want to be redundant about her appointment; I decided not to blog about her anymore but I swore to myself that I am going to see her one day. Our paths are going to cross soon because I live 15 minutes away from the White House.
It was a great priviledge for me to be invited by Consul Joy Quintana as the representative of the Pinoy Teachers Network. Cristeta's presence is already overwhelming, listening to her speech on how she struggled through life "taking the heat in the kitchen" head on is so inspiring.
The honor was presented by His Excellency Ambassador of the Republic of the Philippines and Mrs. Albert del Rosario and the Filipino American Community of the Metropolitan Washington DC. (see photo)
Hail to Cristeta! Here's our harana for you...
" You have come a long way from being a salad girl
And your culinary art skills have served you well.
So here's a toast to good spirits and good food
Hail, Hail Cristeta you are doing so good!"
- Jon & Elvie Melegrito

Dear Marisol,
Thanks for writing about Friday's event. It was great to have you there and to finally meet you.
Hello, Sol:
It was really a pleasure meeting you last Friday. I've visited your Web page and have been following your blogs. Of course you and your husband are still invited.
Please confirm the number of tickets you need so I can call the Bicol Association to make the necessary arrangements. There's probabaly not enough time to mail you the tickets.
Mabuhay!
Did you get to taste any of her food?
I heard about this last Monday when it was broadcasted on tv. I suddenly thought of you, whether you were one of the privileged few. Wow! you're so lucky!

You're really lucky Marisol! I really enjoyed it over there in DC, and I hope to see the White House up close when I come around again.
I also really enjoyed reading your article on Trials in Marriage. You have a very realistic, healthy outlook on marraige and that's what it takes to make it work. From when I met your husband & daughter, I got a good sense of loving fun times within your family! I enjoyed being with them!
Take care! -liz
