Indigo Children

My blogger friend ,JOHN CLARK, updated me about this very interesting book that he's currently finishing. I was really intrigued with it that I feel I need to read it as soon as possible. Not that I am an "Indigo child" but I think I have traces of some of the characteristics mentioned (hey, is this a good thing or a bad thing?).

According to the authors, the following are common traits of Indigo children. If you think that your child has ADD or ADHD, go through this list of traits and assess your child. For all you know, he/she is a gifted Indigo child that must be treated differently.

- They come into the world with a feeling of royalty (and often act like it).
- They have a feeling of “deserving to be here,” and are surprised where others don’t share that.
- Self-worth is not a big issue. They often tell the parent “who they are”.
- The have difficulty with absolute authority (authority without explanation or choice).
- They simply will not do certain things; for example, waiting in line is difficult for them.
- They get frustrated with systems that are ritual-oriented and don’t require creative thoughts.
- The often see better ways of doing things, both at home and in school, which makes them seem like “system busters”.
- They seem antisocial unless they are with their own kind.
- They will not respond to “guilt” discipline (“Wait till you father gets home and finds out what you did”).
- They are not shy in letting you know what they need.

Thanks for featuring the article here. The term Indigo Child has become a common word in our circle of friends. Every time we encounter a person without questionable attitude, we jokingly say “baka Indigo child, yan”. I’m not supposed to answer questions from your readers, but to comment on "the four seasons" question, Indigos is a global phenomenon. It’s not only happening here in the US. That’s the reason why some people call it “the new human revolution”. My kids are very smart and often times exhibit behaviors atypical of a Filipino. At one point, I wondered if my kids are Indigos or simply products of a Liberal America.

HELLO there!

Cases of child ADHD/ADD is equally rampant as in other parts of the world. It's slowly given attention in Manila and in major cities back home who have very good Clinical Psychologists and Developmental Pediatricians.

I can give one person who is an expert in this field, well trained and well known by Clinicians, Psychologists and Psychiatrists in this profession. Have you heard of Dr. Leticia Penano-Ho? She is a Clinical Psychologist and was the Dean of the College of Education in UP Diliman when I left in 2003. Maybe you can inquire about her there.

JOHN CLARK,

One of the characteristics mentioned that caught me: They seem antisocial unless they are with their own kind....and as they all say "birds of the same feather flock together", hmmm...

Thanks for letting me know about this book, now I have something to ask Santa Claus for the second Sunday of Advent when he usually fills up our stockings, haha *wink

I'm about 50% there. I aws an ADD child , but back then, your father kept you in line with discipline. ADD has been around forever. What's lacking is firm parental control, and the willingness of some parents to medicate the problem away.

Hey, I was introduced to this book too by another teacher. Come to think of it, everyone can have a little trace of Indigo in them!

I wonder what it's like for Rommel to date an almost "Indigo Lady"! (*winks*)

I feel similarly as you Sol, like some of the traits points to some of mine and I wonder if as a child, i was an "Indigo Person". I think this whole phenomenon on ADD or ADHD affliction opens up a whole issue to resolve, especially among educators and pyschologists. In some form, it may be an interest to anthropologists as evolution of the human pysche may be at hand, whether into a more insightful being or one towards a lesser form.
