SEAGAMES 2005, Victory for the Philippines!

This morning, I got an email from a fellow Pinoy Teacher from Claret QC who's actually a witness to the recent victory of the Philippine athletes during the 2005 SEAGAMES. Let us read his story...

December 6, 2005

Hi Marisol and to all fellow Filipino teachers from around the world,

Merry Christmas! Indeed it’s a merry, Merry Christmas for our Filipino athletes. For the first time in more than two decades, the Philippines won the overall championship in the currently concluded 23rd SEAGAMES held in several cities in the Philippines from November 27 to December 5, 2005 I feel sad that not much have been said about it in our Pinoy teachers network so I would like to contribute this article, I hope you can share it to other Filipino teachers.

Filipinos from all walks of life trooped to the venues or watched in their television sets and cheered for our countrymen in the week long sporting event. The SEAGAMES fever hit Manila and other key cities in the Philippines faster than any virus on the web. It’s a pity that the Prime Minister of Thailand used it to malign the event with their baseless accusations of cheating. It’s just amazing how our athletes have performed, with our athletes never say die attitude, their brave hearts carried them to victory, with a runaway 113 gold medals, in various events, outclassing 10 other countries . SEAGAMES Opening day Parade

I’m glad that me and my students were witnesses to this very momentous event and we would like to share this occasion to our fellow countrymen abroad. It made us really proud of being Filipinos. Please continue supporting our athletes. Especially in the less popular sports. We sweep all the 6 gold medals at stake in rowing, why? Most of our athletes in this event are real fishermen! Why did we also win in the women’s diving competition? The girl used to dive for coins thrown by passengers on board inter-island ships! Indeed they deserved every gold medal they have won. They won because they have trained hard for it in spite of their limited resources. My students Christmas wish is “if only the opposition and the administration would stop fighting and instead of destroying our country, they should join hand-in-hand in helping our athletes in their training as well as solving our economy.

Is this Sydney?, Is this New York?. Nope! It’s the Quirino Grandstand, Luneta during the closing ceremonies of the 23rd SEAGAMES!
We were worried about our PAASCU accreditation last week because almost our entire English department went abroad this year. Luckily our fresh graduate teachers delivered well. One of the questions asked by the accreditors to our students was: “If you were given 1 million to spend on a special project in school, in what specific project would you spend it?” Some of the students said more basketball courts, more air-conditioned laboratories and then one student stood up and said. “I would like to give the 1 million to all of my teachers so that they will no longer leave us to work abroad!” That broke the accreditors hearts as well as ours.

Mabuhay ang lahat ng mga Pilipinong guro at manlalaro sa buong mundo! Muli, Maligayang Pasko sa inyong lahat!

Yours truly,

I just hope it's not pyrrhic.
our athletes should be insulated from the charges made by the thais. In the spirit of sportsmanship, I'd like to think they were hurled against the politicos behind the games and not at the Honorable Filipino Sportsmen, women and Fans.

Mabuhay ang mga Atletang Pinoy!

Now regarding Thaksin... i've already said my piece, his barking was uncalled for and ang nakaka irita, indirect ang barking, di man lang inguso kung sino ba talaga ang sinasabi niyang nandaya o nagpabaya? ang mga atleta ba o ang mga politiko/sports politiko?

Labo.

Hi Sol! congrats sa yo ha.

Cheers to all the Filipino athletes! I think we deserve an apology from Thai's Prime Minister.

Hi Marisol,
Thanks for finding the time to share the letter to our collegues. Sure you can publish it. It would be better if you can include the pictures that goes with the attachment, Those pictures tell stories by themselves. Just tell me if you have problems with the pictures so that I can send you the original jpeg files.

Merry Christmas once again.

Dear All,

Please accept my profound thanks and congratulations on the success of the "Paskong Pinoy" Concert last Saturday. We share this success to all those who were part of the show. A letter from the Ambassador is on its way to you by mail so you can share it with your members.

The feedback received by the Embassy was very positive and the current sentiment is to make it an annual tradition. The Pope John Paul II Cultural Center was very impressed and promised to give us a better and bigger venue next year. It was really great to have shared the unique spirit of Philippine Christmas.

Maraming salamat. May we all continue to work together to achieve greater and nobler things.

With my best regards,
Joy

Sis Marisol,

Napaiyak ako sa sinasabi ng mga batang ito na "I would like to give the 1 million to all of my teachers so that they will no longer leave us to work abroad!"

of course you know full well kung ano na ang nagyayari dito sa ating bansa. napakalungkot, parang nakapanghihinayang ang mga pagsisiskap natin na mapa ganda ang ating bansa dahil parang mas nag prosper ang masama..... kung may magic wand lang ako....

anyway, i know we should not despair kasi mayroong Great Designer na alam na alam ang ginagawa niya. we just have to rely completely on Him, di ba? and we have to keep on praying and praying.... yes pray without ceasing...

Merry Christmas.... God bless

Sis Neng,

In 2006, our main project is to be able to raise funds to adopt a classroom in the Philippines. I will keep you posted on PTN projects *wink, sana sumusuporta ang lahat ng mga sis ko...
