Special Olympics have changed China's attitude toward disabilities

Hong Kong's Special Olympics team marches into the stadium during last week's opening ceremony.

Less than 20 years ago, China refused to acknowledge any mental disabilities in its citizens, but the nation has transformed its attitude as it greeted thousands of Special Olympics athletes. Shanghai has built some 240 treatment centers and reversed many stereotypes and discrimination. CNN
