Arizona special-educator wins recognition

Helen Ciba, who teaches Arizona fourth- and fifth-graders with special needs, recently was named a teacher of the year through Arizona's Excellence in Education program for transforming the lives of her students with disabilities. Ciba began as a school volunteer but obtained emergency certification in 2001 and earned her degree by taking night and weekend classes. The Arizona Republic (Phoenix)
