Embryonic development of neural stem cells may be tied to a form of autism known as Rett syndrome, according to research published June 30 in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Research found that mice born without a gene that converts the stem cells into neurons display similar symptoms to humans with Rett syndrome, like repetitive motions, seizures and other neurological symptoms.
