School Expels Girl for Having Gay Parents

ONTARIO, Calif. - A 14-year-old student was expelled from a Christian school because her parents are lesbians, the school's superintendent said in a letter.

"Your family does not meet the policies of admission," Superintendent Leonard Stob wrote to Tina Clark, the girl's biological mother.

Clark and her partner have been together 22 years and have two other daughters, ages 9 and 19.

waaah..this is so sad. mahirap talagang baguhin ang isang heterosexualized na society.

sad, very sad...:(

Hi Sol. Sa tingin ko hindi naman siguro dapat madamay and bata sa mga pagkukulang or pagkakaiba ng mga magulang. Ito lang siguro and masasabi ko.

I'm not surprised. Naka-enrolled sa isang Christian school ang subject. Family status is a requirement as stated. This is not about discrimination or violating the subject's civil rights. It's all about following the rules and policies of the school. They can't or should not complain. Marami namang secular schools na pwedeng puntahan. To put it in a different context, a boy can't go to an exclusive all-girls-school just because it is his right to do so. As a Christian school they have the right to impose such a policy. This also happened in Cebu long time ago. The son of my friend was not accepted in a Catholic school because she and her husband were separated.

STELLAR, your first time to visit and comment here? I hope this won't be the last *wink* You're always welcome to share your thoughts with us here in my little cyberclassroom. Tungkol sa comment mo, kay kasabihan nga: "it's hard to teach an old dog new tricks"...

MAJOR TOM, I agree to that.

JOHN CLARK, yep, it's about rules. I just don't understand why some people are really stubborn and find it thrilling to break some major school rules; or the reason behind could be because they wanted more structured education for their children?...it is their kids who suffer in the end and that is the sad part.

hindi ba form ng bigotry yan. Christian school with un-christian acts.

Hard to answer your question. We don't know kasi the full context.

I'm not a "fundamentalist," and I'm not a liberal Christian etiher. On the one hand, it's the right of the school to uphold its policy (homosexuality is not condoned by Christians). On the other hand, it seems so "un-Christian" to expel a child just because her parents are homosexuals (so unfair for the girl who was marginzalized by default).

But one thing is sure: the incident was highly traumatizing for the girl, the one and only victim in this scenario.
It could have been prevented had the 'parents' decided not to send her to a Christian school. What were they thinking in the first place?

Hi Ma'am MARISOL,

Actually the issue is the individual or the parents right to choose the school against the school's right to accept the students and the role of the state in regulating the educational institutions. I think parang pareho lang yung sitwasyon.

Anyway, on the part of the school, parang hindi moral yung pagdeny the student sa access to christian based education. Which is a good sign. maybe magbabago sila pagdating ng araw at magbabalik loob sila. di ba?

I just can't reconcile yung pangyayari dyan sa US na yung "same sex parents" ay pwedeng gawing basis to deny access to christian based education if the same sex marriage is allowed by the state.

Maiba naman tayo,I always wanted to ask you this, nakakalimutan ko lang. Relative mo ba si Dr. Cribe ng Briola Hospital? (I dont know if the hospital still exists sa Daet) Suki kasi nya ang nanay ko nun twing manganganak.. he..he..he.... if you can imagine, anim kaming magkakapatid na siya ang nagsusupervise sa delivery...at lahat yun normal...

God Bless!

This case is interesting indeed.

Religious schools are in essence discriminatory in nature because they only accept those that meet their special and often odd requirements. This is a right that is protected under the law of the land, being a "separate school". You can’t simply get into the school because its excellent academic program appeals to you. You have to be one of them, from head to toe.

Totoo, walang kasalanan ang bata and she doesn’t deserved to be traumatized. Pero sa tinging ko, it would be more tragic for her to be taught things that conflicts and does not fit with what she sees at home lalo na at her tender age. Sabi nga nila, religion is a categorical imperative and is followed, not questioned.

Pretty bad. A kid being punished for ths "sins" of the parents. But then, in my mind that is not a sin at all. I don't see anything wrong with being gay.
