"Enthusiasm is contagious."
How many times did I learn from my blogger friends that I was the one who inspired them to be bold and brave in uncovering their real identity and/ or putting up their pics on the web? That's a very risky thing to do, but admirable for their being personal and sincere. This tech virus that I bring is very contagious, haha.
Recently, I helped my Teacher Consultant colleagues in the DC Area Writing Project set up their own educator's blogs. I am very happy with the outcome, both blogs are successful in what they're supposed to be:
THE DC TEACHER blog = (by DCAWP Teacher Consultant, Elizabeth Davis) This blog is an information portal developed by a DC teacher to inform and engage DCPS Teachers in issues and policy decisions impacting their profession and public education in the district.
MRS.C-S's CLASS WEBLOG = (by DCAWP Teacher Consultant, Trelane Clark) This is where her class will communicate, share, and discuss what they are doing in the classroom. It is for students, parents and anyone else who wants to stay informed about all the great work that they are doing.
DIGITAL WRITING, DIGITAL TEACHING blog = (by Red Cedar Writing Project Teacher Consultant, Troy Hicks) A blog about teaching English through technology.
Well, I didn't create Troy's blog. He's probably more knowledgeable than I am in using this blogging technology; he's working on integrating podcasts right now. I look up to him as one of my mentors being in the NWP Tech Liaison's national leadership team. But I am very flattered to know that I was one of the people who really inspired him to create his own educator's blog.
Here's an excerpt from his first few entries:
"A few weeks ago, I had talked with two colleagues from the National Writing Project—Will Banks and Maria Angala—at the NWP Tech and Writing retreat. Both of them encouraged me to begin blogging. Blogs are, of course, something that I have known about for a few years and, to some degree, even began playing with a while ago (more on that in future posts). But, as a young scholar, preparing to write a dissertation, I was concerned that it is still risky to put my ideas out into cyberspace in such a manner.
But, as you can see, I took the leap. After looking at Maria Angala’s blog and thinking carefully about what other English Ed scholars, like Rob Rozema, are doing with blogs, too, I figured that I had to get into the fray. So, here I am."
To Liz, Trelane and Troy, I personally congratulate you guys for your newly created blogs...keep writing, we will keep reading!

Teacher Sol,
Hi!! I'm so happy with your reply. Thanks a lot. I'm going to manila sometime next week to check out U.P. diliman. Hay...
I think you are a very kind person. I don't know you personally and at first I was hesitant to e-mail you because you might ignore me but thank God you are not like that.
I hope to know you more and thank you again. take care!!!
MARIA, Thank you for that. It was very sweet. But you are the one who deserves the credit. I am pretty sure that I am the only one in my school with a site.
HI LIZ,
You've been a good student and a fast learner! I refuse to accept any fee from you. But maybe you can ask someone to sponsor you to have blogads too, so you can also make your blog income generating like his. Then I can ask you to sponsor me too, so I can make my blog income generating too..does that sound fair enough?
About advertising my services in your blog you're giving me ideas. I will create a paypal account so whoever wants my services can pay through PayPal, they don't have to go through all the trouble of meeting me personally.
And the account won't be mine but a charity work for the PINOY TEACHERS NETWORK. We can just do it the way we did it to your blog.
Hello Maileen,
Relax, we at the Pinoy Teachers Network will be your support group.
I see you joined the Pinoy Teachers network already, just waiting for the Membership Moderator to approve your request. But she will, I told her about you *wink*. We will help you there, we are going to be your support group. I will forward this email of yours to the egroup so others can also give you guidance, especially those who are in Manila or in UP. We have members from different countries and different places in the Philippines (Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao)...you'll be surprised. Wala pa tayong two months sa Pinoy Teachers Network. We will wait for your membership.
TRELANE, Hello there! It's good that you are actually exploring your admin page...you are learning fast and you will learn more, don't you worry! I am always visiting your site and your entries show how much you care for your students and the parents and how much you really value your profession being the teacher.
Maria,
Thanks for continuing to work hard and keep our blog current and in the new.
Galeng-galeng naman. congrats. Punta kayo dito uli sa bahay, bakasyon kayo, treat kita kung saan mo gusto! Take care.
Thank you Ms. Angala,
I just took a look at the site you listed and was so impressed by your technological expertise.
Thanks again and I look forward to a wonderful year.
hi.. watz up?! Yup, your the one who inspired me here in the blogosphere... Huwag na natin i-reveal.. nakakhiya... weh!
These are real good blogs Sol and you are such a blessing for all of us bloggers. To be sure, they will all go a long, long way.
Maria, you were fabulous. Pictures or no pictures, your insights about writing and technology were both mindful and timely. I look forward to us working together often. Also, I want to spend at least one afternoon with you this summer and hope to match schedules with you. I'll be emailing you in the meanwhile and have you in both my heart and mind.
MARIE B. no problemo. I am doing my job when you appointed me as the Tech Liaison of DCAWP. Thanks too :D
MR. MAA, thank you for your support. I was really hoping that you'd like the community website that I made for the school. Thank you for your hardwork to in maintaining our school under control. Have a good school year to you too.
JERRY F, thank you very much also for giving me this opportunity to take another active role in the advocacy of disseminating information about the National Writing Project/ DCAWP. Hope I really did well, as my first time to be a panelist in a concurrent session in a conference. Yep, we forgot to take pictures, I better equip myself with a digicam. As a DCAWP Tech Liaison, I guess it's my job to document these events.
Rejoice, Maria!
I'm finding my way back into "techi-dom".
Soonspeak,
Ingrid
