PAROL, a Filipino Tradition
Mabuhay!
Christmas is just around the corner. Your kids may be counting the days already!
The Pinoy Teachers Network (PTN) was sponsored by Fil Am Tennis Organization of NOVA to present "Filipino Customs and Traditions of Simbang Gabi".
As you know, Filipinos have earned the distinction of celebrating the world's longest Christmas Season. It will not be complete without the traditional Philippine Christmas symbols and decorations. So, we had a "Parol Making Activity" last Saturday, November 19, 2005. Around 20 FilAm youths from all ages participated in this activity.
To all the participants and their parents, thank you for giving the Pinoy Teachers a chance to impart the knowledge about how to make the Filipino traditional Christmas Lantern. We all did a great job. To the Fil Am Tennis Organization of NOVA, we are very grateful of another successful activity with you. We hope to maintain a good symbiotic professional relationship as we explore more possibilities of collaborationg with you on your education related projects.
KAYANG KAYA BASTA SAMA SAMA!

Great pictures. My kids are definitely counting down. I found a site that counts down by hours, seconds, etc; I posted a link over at my place.
Good to see you back!
hi! sana may parol din dito... iba talaga ang spirit ng pasko sa atin... masaya... dito, malungkot.
That's a cool activity for Filipino kids.
hELLO, tEACHER sOL... Weeeee! Christmas is coming... I Officially receiving gifts from abroad... Hehehe, joke lang. Bout parol, dami na nga. Pero napapalitan na yata ng mga Nagdadamihang Christmas lights.... Sana, andiyan pa rin ang parol na pang Pinoy.
Thanks po sa note niyo sa blog ko....
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!! in advance...
ang galing!
it feels good to note that even outside Pinas, the Filipino traditions of Christmas are still being observed.
At home, we put up the Christmas Tree last week and now we can feel it's Christmas.
As of this month, the Manila streets aren't adorned with much Christmas decor yet. Signs of the times -- hard times!
That was a good project (teaching the people there how to make the Pinoy Christmas lantern). Commendable!
Hi Sol,
This is great news--keep up the good work!
Feel free to call me when you/teachers need assistance. I told a bunch of them during the Salu-Salohan that the PhilAmer Chamber of Commerce will host a party/get-together for them in the spring of next year.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
God Bless,
Mitzi
