Teacher Firings, Everywhere?

Teachers, it's time to get serious.

I just read this news today and it made me realize why I really need to protect myself and document everything...same thing you should do if you love your job. It's happening in other states in the country, it's currently going on here in my school district.

Read the news:

Philadelphia educators say the higher number [of teachers being fired] this year is the result of pressure to rate teachers as frequently as allowed because the federal No Child Left Behind law requires better academic performance.

They were fired for poor teaching, making inappropriate comments to students and coworkers, insubordination, poor attendance and lateness, failure to perform duties such as creating lesson plans, or failure to supervise students, officials said.

Mantell, principal of Frankford for nine years, said he had successfully recommended firing four teachers for poor performance. If the process weren't so cumbersome, he probably would have moved to fire a dozen.

Rather than carry out the procedures, he said, some schools force a bad teacher out of their building by dropping a teaching position.

Teachers also should have to go before a review board to attain tenure; it shouldn't be automatic, [Walsh] said.

i`m sorry to hear that there are teachers fired for not being careful around students and coworkers... but i believe filipino teachers are no problem as they`re the best.

Hey Teacher Sol,

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Yes, you need to know the policies, rights & culture of your audience - your students, the parents and community. Survive wisely.. I would advise. Bullying is everywhere when it hits you... come prepared so that you can enjoy and stand tall on your achievements!
