Special Education Task Force

I'm glad our school's WTU (Washington Teacher's Union) building representative told me about the WTU - DCPS Special Education Taskforce Interest Meeting last week. I am now with the working committee of this citywide special education taskforce.

The basic function of the WTU - DCPS Special Education Taskforce and Joint Committee is to define the issues that the Union and DCPS need to address regarding the Special Education instructional programs in our district. The special education topic areas that we covered during our meeting are issues related to:

- IEPs/ IEP Teams
- Resources/ Materials
- Discipline
- Compliance
- Inclusion/ LRE
- Early Intervention

We have elected the WTU Committee representatives, I am a subcommittee member. The initial meeting of the WTU - DCPS joint committee will be on Wednesday, the 24th, at the Union office. Then the next steps will be a meeting with parents and community stake holders, and finally, the development of system-wide Action Plan for Special Education beeds and concerns in DCPS.

I will keep you updated on this. More on Special Education taskforce in my entries here and here.
