We badly need a special education revamp too here in DCPS ...I believe Chancellor Rhee has this in her transition plan.

N.C. district revamps special education after parent complaints
As Chapel Hill-Carrboro schools revamp their special-education services, some are calling for more accountability, increased training and greater inclusion. "We've made progress, but the acceleration of the speed of the progress hasn't happened," said Jamezetta Bedford, the school board's chairwoman. The News & Observer (Raleigh, N.C.)

what specifically do you think needs to be revamped, or re-examined within DCPS?
Ms. Angala, thank you so much for your post. Special Education is bankrupting DCPS. I am a classroom teacher, so I have no expertise in special ed, but it is very clearly a problem. DCPS is not providing these children with a free and appropriate education, so when they are sued, they lose, and have to pay for the child to attend a private facility costing as much (or more) than $30K a year. We could save so much money by making sure that these students' needs are met.
Brooklyn Teaching Fellow, how are you? The problems in the special education department is massive, dur to professional and ethical issues I cannot divulge the issues as identified by the task force team. But Teacher Chic has a major point and she has given the impact too.
